Molasses Squares 1/2 C butter (1 stick) 1 C granulated sugar 4 eggs 1/2 C applesauce 1 C molasses 1 C milk 3 C whole wheat flour 1 tsp baking soda 1 C chocolate chips 1 C raisins or other dried fruit 2 C oatmeal Cream butter and sugar, beat in eggs. Add applesauce. Stir baking soda into flour. Add milk and molasses alternating with flour to butter/egg mixture until all combined. Stir in chocolate chips, dried fruit, and oatmeal. Bake at 375 in one 9x13 and one 8x8 greased and floured pan for 25-30 minutes. (It was supposed to be two 9x13s but that makes them too thin and dried out, so I compromised.) I use Arrowhead Mills whole wheat pastry flour, which is finer ground than other WW flours and helps with texture in many baked goods. This is so chunky it can stand the coarser regular grind, so don't worry much about that. I use white flour for the pan preparation; it sticks better. I use glass pans; don't know if that makes a difference in timing.
